The best cold brew coffee feels like an indulgent, special treat, but it could not be easier to make, so you can have it daily! All you need is your favorite coffee beans and water that has gone through a purification process.

Like a lot of people, I always begin my day with a cup of coffee. It’s the very first thing I make after I stumble out of bed. But what might make me a bit more unique as a coffee drinker than most is that I always have a cup of coffee between 3-5pm. Every afternoon I reach for that extra boost I need to get me through to bedtime, and I’m ok with that.
My first 2-3 cups of coffee are always hot. I like it black, but when I’m feeling fancy I throw in a splash of half and half. But that afternoon cup, the last one of the day, needs to be extra special. So, when it’s not cold outside, I make that one an iced coffee with homemade cold brew.
Yeah, I drink a lot of coffee, but I drink a lot of water too, at least half a gallon a day but often a full gallon. I had been buyinggallons of purified water at a time from the store, but I always felt guilty about how much plastic I was consuming.
Since I drink so much water and use so much water in my coffee consumption, it’s really important to me that my water tastes good and is the best for my body that it can be, so that’s why I’m so happy to finally have found the perfect purified water dispenser for me. Trust me, you’re going to love it too! And one of the best parts is that each refillable 5-gallon water bottle saves 1,100 single-use bottles from ending up in a landfill or floating around our oceans!
Primo water makes it easy to get water that has gone through an exceptional purification process. You take your refillable water bottle to a self-serve refill station located at a local chain store near you.
Place your refillable water bottle on the refill platform (A), use the control to raise or lower the pour spout so that it’s right above the opening of your bottle (B), press the on button (C) and watch your bottle fill to the top (D)!

My kids really enjoyed this process and, of course, they wanted to be the ones to press the controls and take off and put on the water bottle lid.

The website says that prices vary depending on your state and refill location (they are in many big retail stores like Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes and Kroger), but at 39 cents per gallon at my local Walmart, it’s way more affordable than buying gallon water bottles at a local wholesale members-only store! One thing to note: some Primo refill stations say “Glacier” on them, but the companies are one and the same.
Find a refill location near you!
And while you’re at it, pick up a non-spill cap for stress free transport to and from your home!
Did you know that millions of water systems in America are made of metals, which break down over time and can contaminate tap water? Not to mention tap water is routinely found to contain toxic chemicals. Ground water is easily contaminated which then leaches into our tap water, and many local governments just don’t have the budget to replace water system parts to keep up with safety regulations.
All of that scary stuff aside, tap water, even when filtered through countertop systems, never tastes right to me. I always preferred the bottled stuff, but that presents another problem in the use of so much plastic!
What’s a girl to do?
I finally know the answer!
Guys, this Primo hTRIO Bottom Loading Dispenser with Single Serve Coffee K-Cup® Machine Built In is the real deal. Not only does the water taste AMAZING because their purification process reduces the presence of chlorine, heavy metals, bacteria, parasites and many other contaminants, it’s affordable and easy to keep in your home. The in-home dispenser is sleek and beautiful so I don’t mind having it displayed in a prominent, easy to access area, and it doesn’t take up much room. Plus, it’s so easy to set up that my 6 year old daughter likes to change the water bottles.

But it doesn’t just give you delicious water that has gone through an awesome purification process, this in-home water dispenser from Primo also dispenses hot water (with a red child lock for safety), has a reusable coffee pod built right in, and allows for storage and use of disposable K-cup coffee pods! When I found out about the hot water dispenser and coffee features, it was like Christmas morning. This thing is seriously cool.

It is proven that adding a water dispenser to your home results in your family drinking 25% more water, and I can attest to that! Getting their own water from our Primo water dispenser is so fun for my girls. They have DEFINITELY been drinking a ton more water since we got it. And I love that it dispenses cool water, which makes me want to drink more of it!
I do recommend that you purchase at least 2 refillable bottles with your Primo in-home water dispenser. That way, you will always have a full bottle ready to go while you are taking the other one to get refilled. If you have two bottles on stand by, then you can take that much longer between refills! Okay, now I want to tell you how you can use this specially purified water to make some really bomb Cold Brew Coffee.
1. Take two cups of your favorite coffee beans, place them in a zip top bag and use a jar or heavy bottom cup to crush them to a medium “grind”. You don’t want to grind your coffee beans too much or the fine dust will not get strained out later on.

2. Combine the crushed coffee beans with 8 cups of water in a large container, and stir well for about 5 minutes. You want to saturate the beans with water. Some will fall to the bottom which is good.

3. Cover and place in the fridge for at least 12 hours. The longer it sits, the stronger it will be! When it has sat for long enough, strain the coffee through a strainer lined with a coffee filter, cheesecloth, or a thin kitchen towel. The coffee filter takes a long time, so I ended up switching to a flour sack kitchen towel which worked like a dream.

4. When strained, pour the cold brew coffee into a container with a lid and keep in the fridge.

This makes enough for about 6 glasses of cold brew coffee. I can drink coffee black, and often do, but when I drink cold brew I like to add a splash of maple syrup and some half and half. There’s no wrong way to drink a cold brew coffee!
