I have two little girls. One is three and a half going on sixteen, and the other is almost a year and a half. The little one is finally able to rough house and play – she’s running now, climbing on everything, and is pretty tough when it comes to falling down or getting bumps – so they are interacting with each other more. Yesterday their dad took them for a walk to the park so that I could get some work done, and while he went through the garage to get the stroller, my girls went out the front door. I stood at the door watching as the older helped the younger down the steps by holding her hand, going slowly and coaching with her words. She’s a fantastic big sister. And as they walked down the path holding hands, around the corner and out of sight to a waiting dad, the little one looked over her shoulder at me and smiled.
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is always telling you to not rush this time with your babies. Hold on to every exhausting, frustrating, tear inducing moment, because you’ll miss them when they’re gone, they say. I always smile and say something in return like, “Oh, I’m sure I will!” but really I’m thinking, “Yeah, right! I can’t wait until they’re both at least 10!” But today, when I saw them walking away together and I realized that the little tiny baby days are gone, I understood what those well intentioned comments meant. I felt it right in the heart place.
It’s a struggle for me to live in today. I have big plans and I want to get to work on them now, but I also know that I need balance, and I need to be present in today for my daughters. That’s one of the reasons I’ve been doing this weekly meal plan for myself for years. I don’t want waste time going to the grocery store multiple times a week or stressing about what they will eat every single night. It’s a small thing, but it’s something that gives me back a little bit of this time that is so precious.
I hope you all are helped by these meal plans as much as I am. Let me know what you think of the recipes I’ve chosen! Are they too complicated or time consuming for you? Do they fit right in with your evening? Either way, I’d love to hear about it. If you have any questions, please just ask away. I’m dying to hear what you all think.
